This 1️⃣ thing is stalling your weight loss and damaging your health

Dear Reader,

This one thing is stalling your weight loss, creating fatigue and causing many of the chronic diseases you fear: Inflammation.

So here’s the complete guide to inflammation.

What is inflammation?

It’s the heightened defence reaction that your body switches into in order to combat unfamiliar internal and external stressors.

In our modern Western world, these are primarily:

You can get all the details in this video segment. Just click the image above ⬆️

Inflammation is a defence system that has evolved to keep us alive in all environments and eventualities.

When your body receives a stimulus that it doesn’t recognise, it creates incoherence.

You could call it chaos.

We survived hundreds of thousands of years thanks to our ability to restore order from chaos.

Order is called homeostasis in medicine.

In fact, over time, we slowly adapt to these new stimuli, negating their effects.

The acute version of this is called hormesis or acute inflammation.

But when we live in an environment that chronically assaults our biology our bodies are constantly battling to return to homeostasis.

In medical terms, that state is called chronic systemic (or low-level) inflammation.

And chronic inflammation is your single greatest barrier to weight loss & positive mood.

It lies behind cancers, cardiovascular-related symptoms, Alzheimer’s, lower immune resilience, thyroid problems, sex hormone disruption, skin issues and much more.

Things you can do to support your body in creating order from disorder (reducing chronic inflammation):

Remove/reduce the stressors - watch the video above: once you’ve identified the stressors, you can work to remove/reduce them. Easy right? :-)

Difficulty level: 8/10 - there’s plenty of low-hanging fruit, but in our 21st Century world, the more you want to go with this, the more incompatible with modern life it gets.

Reducing body fat: Particularly visceral (hidden) fat and ectopic fat (fat stored where it shouldn't be) are sources of internal inflammation.

Difficulty level: 3/10 - when you know what you’re doing. Get started with my 12 Golden Rules of Fat Loss.

Want to know if you’ve got too much visceral fat? Measure your waist circumference and divide by your height. If the results is ≥0.5 then you’ve got too much visceral fat!

Circadian rhythm: if your cellular timetable is out of sync, then you’re undermining your body’s ability to deal with stressors AND you’re creating more internal inflammation. Your “daily clock mechanism” controls your cortisol & melatonin levels, your immune and gut function, your hormonal cascade, even your metabolism. Entraining your circadian rhythm is foundational.

Difficulty level: 4/10 - requires knowing what you’re doing and adapting your lifestyle, but the basics are pretty simple. If you can't get outside or reduce your after-dark blue light then you'll need to invest in aids like circadian bulbs and blue light blockers. I recommend Block Blue Light.

Grounding: if you’ve read my 6-part series on how our bodies REALLY create energy then you’ll know health = net negative charge (if you haven’t then get it here).

Electrons are negatively charged and we can get these in abundance from the Earth’s surface. All you have to do is come into contact with it.

Difficulty level: 3/10 - as simple as spending 30 minutes a day barefoot on the lawn, or you can use things like a grounding mat.

Proper Sun exposure: proper sun exposure helps reduce inflammation through POMC cleavage, Nitric oxide release, proper free radical signalling, melanin creation.

Difficulty level: 2/10 - once you know what to do it’s pretty unsophisticated. The only difficulty being getting outside enough.

Improving your Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acid ratio: you’ve probably heard of this one.

The O6:O3 ratio is one factor in inflammation. The ideal ratio differs depending on which papers you read. The consensus is that it should be 1:1 or at most 4:1 in favour of O6.

Modern day ratios in the population range between 15:1 - 35:1. Wildly out of ratio!

O6 is most highly concentrated in seeds and oils from seeds; O3 is mostly abundant in oily fish. If you’re following my Golden Rules then you won’t be consuming much seed oil (get them here).

Are you eating enough oily fish?

Is your Omega 6:Omega 3 ratio out of whack?

Difficulty level:

7/10 if you try to do it by eating a lot of fish

2/10 when you get this pack: do the at-home finger prick test, take the Balance oil for 120 days, do the test again. Simple!

You can get it here.

Most Omega 3 supplements are a) from uncertain sources and b) potentially rancid (PUFAs are very sensitive to oxidation).

The Balance oil has been carefully formulated:

  • Fish oil extracted from high quality sources,
  • Polyphenols from olives added back in to make sure the oil is stable,
  • So you can be sure you’re not swallowing something that is in itself inflammatory,
  • Plus it’s flavoured so not too fishy!

Which is why I’m happy to recommend it to you.

As you know, I think supplements are only useful to explore once you’ve changed your lifestyle.

Otherwise they're very hit and miss.

But a testable product with which you can tell if it's actually doing what it's supposed to?

Worth a try!
Tip: if you don't live in the UK, click the 3 lines in the top left-hand corner and choose your country from the list.

From my perspective, the most beneficial aspect of all this is the increased DHA/DPA/EPA content supporting quantum effects.

So there you have it.

TL;DR

  • Reducing sources of chronic inflammation and supporting your body in dealing with it should be near the very top of your health priorities,
  • There are many ways of doing this, to a greater or lesser extent, with greater or lesser difficulty levels,
  • Start with the easiest: test your Omega 6:Omega 3 ratio and reduce your ratio; lose visceral fat; ground; get plenty of sunlight.

Got questions?

Dear Reader, Nia Day, Founder of the Halestra Wellness platform, interviewed me about my 2026 Fasting Challenge (5 days fasted in a forest wilderness) and wrote a beautiful, contemplative text. I loved this framing so much I feel obliged to share it with you. Thus I am reproducing it below (with her blessing). "I've been thinking a lot this week about discomfort. The things we instinctively avoid because they're inconvenient, unsettling or simply a little harder than the easier option. In...
